![]() He has trained for this, he is ready, but he has never taken a life. Away from everything they know, but a chance for a new life. A cottage away from the city for them all, with access to grain and a garden, and mayhap even livestock. He has one sister left, and a brother besides, and his mother. His father, long gone, too weak to support them, to stay. Dead for two summers now, her stomach bloated from hunger. He thinks of his younger sister as he moves through the crowd. They would not dress so, not if they truly were Andalaan in their hearts. It is a wonder any of them are Andalaan they all look Vathek now. The makhzen titter among themselves like jeweled birds, gowns glittering in the sunlight, scabbards flashing as men shift in the uncomfortable summer air. The nobles sit on velvet cushions behind gold rope, but those who stand, who look up at the podium waiting for her to appear, they are the poor. The crowd is silent, but then the crowds at these events are always silent. He is invisible in a sea of invisible faces. He feels angry, so angry, the sort of anger that does not need fuel. GIVE AWAY X MIRAGE HOW TOHe feels hard, because he knows how to take a beating, how to fall just so when a guard hits him with a baton. He feels hungry, the sort of hungry that gnaws at him day and night, until it is so much his companion he does not know how to live without it. That he is young and that he is skilled and that he is steady. This is what she says to him when she comes to choose him. He is young, not yet fifteen, too young for the daan ceremony. Enter to #Win a copy of #Mirage by from Click To Tweet I am not ready to say goodbye to these characters and this world yet. Honestly, I loved Mirage so much that I am kind of bummed it is only going to be a duology. I cannot wait to see where this duology takes us and I cannot wait to see how it concludes. The rebellious under current is a very strong theme brewing throughout. And I know she is going to be even more kick butt in the next installment. I loved watching her develop into the young lady she was at the end of the book. Mirage is a character building journey for Amani. scandalous!) It was a bit rushed and a bit predictable but I loved it nonetheless. There is also a really interesting romance developing in Mirage between Amani and Idris caught me right from he very start. By the end, I was practically begging for more! She immediately sucked me in and held me captive for the entire novel. Cadiz is heavily Moroccan inspired and Somaiya Daud really did a fantastic job creating this vast world. I was completely swept up in this story, and a large part of that was due to the intricate world building. Here we meet Amani, who is kidnapped and taken to the planet Andal, where she is forced to train to become the princess’ Body Double. Somaiya Daud did such a fantastic job weaving this story! I am seriously still mesmerized by it.Īs I said before, Mirage is set on a moon world, called Cadiz. Because Mirage is a masterpiece all of its’ own. Immediately it had a star wars type vibe, but the comparison does not go very far.
